Mrs Diane Clarkson

My name is Diane Clarkson and I'm a ETA in Year 3 and a member of the Maths, Science and D&T curriculum team.

I am married with two sons and two grandchildren. My hobby is reading and I like nothing better than to curl up with either a crime thriller or historical fiction book.

Mrs Helen Barrowclough

Hi, I’m Helen Barrowclough  the ETA in Reception.   I am married with 2 grown up children and have lived all over the country. I have worked in Reception at Upperthong since 2010 and before that with children in Early Years with Special Educational Needs since 2005.  My original career was in research, audit and governance in the NHS but I discovered my love of working with little children through volunteering at my own children’s school.  I absolutely love working in Reception.

Mrs Jan Wallis

Hi, I’m Jan Wallis and I joined the school in January 2017. I mainly work with pupils who are currently in year 6. I am also part of the PE curriculum team.

All my working life has involved working with children from birth to teens and their families. I started off as a Careers Advice and Guidance worker changing career paths to the Early years when my children were young and I jointly established and ran an Out of School Childcare Club. In more recent years I worked as a Sure Start Locality Manager and have had the privilege of working with communities in Huddersfield and Batley as we built and delivered Sure Start Children Centres. I always volunteered in my own children’s school as a parent helper and school governor. I enjoy, and find it incredibly rewarding, supporting children in their development and learning.

I am married with 2 grown up children. I enjoy running, cycling and generally keeping fit. I look forward to our holidays and love travelling around this fantastic island of ours.… and much further afield, time and money permitting!

However, my family always comes first so spending as much time with them as their busy lives will allow me too is a priority!

Mrs Sharron Dawson

Hi I'm Sharron Dawson. I have lived in Holmfirth all my life, I also spent some of my earlier school days at  Upperthong and still live locally.

After becoming a parent helper when my son was in reception, I decided to go back to college and re-train as an ETA and luckily became an ETA at Upperthong Junior & Infant School. Since joining Upperthong, I have worked in both KS1 and KS2. During my time at Upperthong I have involved myself in all aspects of school life including being a member of the literacy curriculum team. It is a very fulfilling and satisfying position which I enjoy immensely.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, Shaun who left Upperthong to join Holmfirth High in 2012 and Martha who joined Upperthong in 2014.

Ms Jenni Lamburn

Hi, I'm Jenni Lamburn ETA currently working 1-1 in year 1. I have worked at Upperthong for almost 3 years. Before coming here, I worked at a primary school in Golcar for 15 years.

I have 3 children (two sons and a daughter), my youngest son attended Upperthong in years 5 & 6 when we moved back to Holmfirth in 2017.

In my spare time I like to read and go for walks with our dog Roxee. I am often found in my kitchen baking cakes and cupcakes for friends, family, & on occasion the staff room.

Mrs Gillian Thomson

My name is Gillian Thomson and I am currently working as a TA in Y2, 2 days each week. I began this role in late 2020 during the pandemic and so thoroughly enjoyed it that I am still here!

My previous role was as a teacher for over 30 years, 13 of them at Upperthong, teaching classes in Y4, Y3 and Y2. After retiring I continued at Upperthong, working as a volunteer, helping out in different classes and working with Y6 to help prepare them for SATS.

My leisure time is spent principally with my family enjoying sharing time with my 3 sons and 3 grandchildren. We love visiting different parts of Britain in our caravans doing lots of walking and cycling. My faith is also important to me and I belong to a local church, attending regularly; also helping out with some of the admin work and heading up the refreshment team.

Mrs Tricia Palin

My name is Mrs Tricia Palin, and I have worked at Upperthong for the last seven years. I'm a teaching assistant, currently working in year one. I have three boys, all of whom have attended/still attend Upperthong and they have all enjoyed their time there.

When I'm not working I love spending time with my family, walking our dog and riding my horses.

Miss Jessica Bell

Hi, I'm Jessica Bell.  I'm currently working as a Level 3 Apprentice ETA with a specialism,  in year 1.

I am a family-oriented person and love spending time with my family during my free time.

Growing up I've always been involved in sports which I have carried through to my adult life. I have a keen interest in various sports, but my two favourites are football and Formula One.

After participating in football as a child and during my teenage years, I decided to use my knowledge and football ability to help train a girls Wildcat football team.

Miss Holly Kay

Hi, I’m Holly Kay.  I live in a small village over the hill in Glossop and have done for most of my life.

I am currently completing a level 3 apprenticeship in year 2 as an ETA with a specialism, after a career in finance. It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to work with children. Having my son has given me the extra boost I needed to pursue my long-term goals. I have a great passion for art, painting wall murals and portraits takes me to my happy place. I also enjoy practising holistic therapy, reading and motorcycling.

Mrs Sue Thompson - Bursar

Hello as most of you will know I’m Sue Thompson. I have possibly met or have at least spoken on the phone to most of you at one time or another. I often hear the drop in parents’ voices when they know it’s me ringing them on the phone. Usually to be honest it’s because your little one is not feeling too well, so don’t worry I don’t take offence.

I grew up and lived for most of my life in Leicestershire, which is where I met my husband Paul. We have one daughter who is now all grown up. I moved to Yorkshire with my husband’s work, we love the area and have settled in well,

My work has always revolved around admin/office work. I joined the team at Upperthong J & I School over 13 years ago and really enjoy working here.

The job includes the admin side which I enjoy, along with the pleasure of working with your children on a day to day basis You could say I have the best of both worlds. Please feel free to pop into the office at any time if you have any questions, we are here to help.
